College of Ag News: Agriculture Career Exposition
March 2009 Texas A&M College of Ag News–Agriculture Career Exposition: Students in the College meet with 30+ employers to explore career options, plus interview for internships and jobs.

The Texas Association for Interior Design (TAID) wants to make it illegal to practice interior design in Texas without a government license. Over the past 20 years they have spent tens, maybe hundreds, of thousands of dollars on lobbyists, claiming that unregistered interior designers present a danger to the public health and safety. On June 6, 2007, Marilyn Roberts, president of TAID, e-mailed the group’s membership the following request for information: “We must get cases of harm in Texas!!!!!!! Any jobs you have had that you have corrected something potentially or proven harmful to your clients (harmful physically or emotionally). Any contacts you have with building plan reviewers, Registered Accessibility Specialists inspectors, fire marshalls, inspectors of any kind that would have found violations that hopefully a registered interior designer corrected. Would help to have cases from residential, commercial-large or small projects, medical facilities, nursing homes, etc. Remember, not just fire code related issues, but using materials that are not antimicrobial where needed, not having areas accessible, anything………..” Two years later, KXAN TV-Austin asked Ms. Roberts to name one example of an unregistered interior designer harming a member of the public. Her answer to this important question? “Actually, there are not things that I can document right now.” Regulating interior design has nothing to do with protecting the public and everything to do with …

2010 College Football Predictions – Nebraska
2010 College Football Predictions – Nebraska
An impressive 33-0 Holiday Bowl win over Arizona put an exclamation mark on a very good season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but head coach Bo Pelini, who is now 20-8 in his first two seasons on the job, isn’t satisfied. This may be Nebraska’s last season in the Big 12 Conference, but Pelini wants to go out with a bang. Anything short of a Big 12 title and a BCS bowl game would be considered a disappointing season, especially since the Huskers could have easily achieved both of those goals last season. Forget about the controversy in last year’s Big 12 championship game surrounding the officials putting one second back on the clock for Texas to kick the game-winning field goal. Had Nebraska not booted the kick off out of bounds to give Texas such great field position, the Huskers were sitting pretty to pull off the upset. That heartbreaking defeat motivated the Huskers to train hard for their bowl game, and it will keep them motivated throughout the 2010 season.
Offense: What’s amazing is that Nebraska was able to win so many games in 2009 despite having one of the worst offenses in the Big 12. The Huskers ranked next to last in the league (99th nationally) in total offense, only averaging 322.8 yards per game. The Huskers also ranked near the bottom of the Big 12 in scoring offense (No. 8), averaging just 25.1 points per game. While Pelini wants even more production from the running game, Nebraska’s run offense was solid in 2009. Roy Helu Jr. did most of the damage, racking up 1,147 yards and 10 scores. Where Nebraska really struggled was its passing game. Quarterbacks Zac Lee and Cody Green were both inconsistent as the Huskers ranked No. 11 in the Big 12 (101st nationally) in passing offense. Lee is expected to get the first crack as starter. He doesn’t have to be great, but he needs to be good enough to keep the opposition honest when it stacks the box to take away the power running game. When the Huskers do take to the air, they’ll be looking to get the ball in the hands of playmaker Niles Paul. Paul caught 40 passes for 796 yards and four scores last season.
Defense: There was no better defense in FBS college football in terms of scoring in 2009. The Huskers led the nation by only allowing 10.4 points per game. Chew on this for a moment. Only one team scored more than 20 points on Nebraska all season. While the Huskers will certainly miss Ndamukong Suh, there is enough talent remaining to boast one of the nation’s best defenses again in 2010. Now, the spotlight will belong to 1st-team All-Big 12 defensive tackle Jared Crick. The guy that lined up next to Suh tallied 73 tackles and 9.5 sacks in his sophomore season. Crick isn’t quite as athletic as Suh, but he is just as powerful and has great technique. Plus, his motor doesn’t stop. Fellow 1st-team All-Big 12 pick Prince Amukamara is another player to watch. He recorded five interceptions a season ago. This is a deep, disciplined defense ready to terrorize the Big 12 again.
Prediction – 1st Big 12 North – Pelini has a championship-caliber defense, and the offense should be better than it was a year ago. With this in mind, there’s no reason to think the Huskers won’t find themselves in the Big 12 title game this December. Find out how I have the rest of the league stacking up in my 2010 Big 12 football predictions.

(Mike Walker): “This is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. I was in Groton in 1977. We lost 15 structures. This compares with that. It’s pretty massive.” (Erin Huntimer): “2010 may very well be remembered as the year of nature’s discontent — ice storms, snow storms, and now this.” Eleven steel transmission towers north of Bowdle, South Dakota, destroyed by a tornado. Nine flattened, one bent in half, and one completely gone — pieces are found 400 yards away, over the hill. The line carries electricity from Basin Electric’s Antelope Valley Station near Beulah, North Dakota, to the Broadland substation near Huron, South Dakota. The tornado damage happened between two sections of line damaged in the ice storm in January. (Mike Walker): “We’ve had hundred mile-an-hour winds, we’ve had six-inch-thick ice, they’ve withstood all of that for 30 years. When that tornado came in, I’m guessing it had to have been a couple hundred mile-an-hour winds.” He’s right. The tornado was rated by the National Weather Service as an EF4 with winds between 166 and 200 miles an hour. (Steve Denouden): “There’s just so much damage. We expected to find four or five towers at most, and when we came up with the number of 11, it was really overwhelming.” Crews from all eight maintenance shops are here, tying off lines, unloading steel, and getting ready to rebuild. Repairs will take about four weeks if the weather cooperates. (Jan Fasching): “It’s just a mess. I guess you can say it’s kind of lucky it …

Kansas State Wildcats Recent News:
The team is currently on the look-out for a new coach. Ron Prince’s three-year reign ends on November 22. Many fans are blaming him for Wildcats’ losing streak. The coaching job is believed to go to Bill Snyder if he wants it. Kansas is said to desire a coach with Bowl experience and wants to hire as soon as possible. However, money might be an issue. There is still the matter of paying off Prince .3 to buy him out of the raise and extension given to him just last summer.
On the positive side, the November 15 loss against Nebraska Cornhuskers showed the abilities of the specials teams and the defense to score touchdowns off returns. They hope to sustain it by next season. On the players, Josh Freeman suffered a mild concussion during the Nebraska game. No further information however, was divulged by coach Prince. Questions on the future of some players, particularly Brandon Banks are being asked. Would he stay with the team now that Prince, who signed him, is leaving. Banks said that his stay will depend on the new coach that will be hired by the Kansas State.

Georgia Bulldogs 2008 College Football Team Preview
Georgia Bulldogs 2008 College Football Team Preview
Georgia is coming off an 11-2 season capped by a huge 41-10 win over Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. The team returns eight starters on offense and seven starters on defense. Head coach Mark Richt owns the fourth-best winning percentage (.791) among active coaches.
Junior Matthew Stafford returns at quarterback for the Bulldogs. Stafford’s numbers (4,272 yards, 26 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, 54.5% completions in two seasons) do not accurately reflect the amount of talent this kid possesses. The coaches spent the offseason working with Stafford on fundamentals.
Tailback Knowshon Moreno returns for his sophomore season. Moreno rushed for 1,334 yards last season, which stands as the second-best total by a freshman in school history. Moreno was also the second-leading rusher in the SEC.
The uncertainty on offense lies with an offensive line that will have new starters at four of the five positions. Four of the five starters will likely be sophomores. There are sure to be some growing pains with this young unit. Luckily for Georgia, they have a lot of talent at other positions that should keep this offense chugging along until this unit can jell.
The Bulldogs are extremely deep along the defensive line. Georgia has the capability to consistently rotate five tackles and six ends. Junior defensive tackle Geno Atkins is the cream of this crop. Georgia also has high aspirations for redshirt freshman Justin Houston, a converted linebacker.
The Bulldogs devoted much of the spring to working on their nickel package. The Georgia nickel package does not use a strong-side linebacker, so only linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (middle) and Rennie Curran (weak-side) see significant playing time.
The secondary is solid and returns three of four starters, including corners Asher Allen and Prince Miller, and strong safety C.J. Byrd. Sophomore Reshad Jones appears to be the new starter at free safety.
Freshman Blair Walsh appears to be the odds-on favorite to win the kicking job and senior Brian Mims is a solid punter who should have that job secured.
The 2008 Georgia Bulldogs have no shortage of talent. They’ll likely go as far as Stafford and Moreno can take them. Georgia also has depth, especially on what could be a dominant defensive line. This team will be extremely tough if the offensive line comes together quickly and plays effectively.
But the Bulldogs have a very tough schedule. They have road games against Arizona State, LSU, Auburn and Florida (in Jacksonville). They also have a tough home game against Tennessee, who beat Georgia 35-14 last season. The only upside to having a schedule this tough is Georgia could lose a game (or possibly two) and still find themselves in the BCS National Championship game.
