Killa-kev – Memoir

Killa-kev – Memoir

“Sixteen-hundred miles away and still strong” those words, that small group of seven, said not for a love poem or any romantic relationship, but used to describe my relationship with Kevin, my greatest comrade. Beginning with first grade, the year of our relationship’s establishment, Kevin had moved in from Providence, a place that I knew well having grownup there a little. Both new to the school that year, we conversed and found our personalities similar; today, roughly eleven years later, we spend every weekend at my house.

Never failing, this redhead boy, Kevin, spends another weekend at my house to just chill-out. “Dave,” me, “Have any more of those hydros lying around?” When he says “hydros”, he means the fireworks I possess with a little more kick than your average firecracker. Typically, we would gather up empty bottles to bring with us to a clear area, dropping the lit fireworks in, letting them detonate in-air. Occasionally, when we found some, we would bring a few old toys the children in the neighborhood didn’t want anymore, stick a hydro in its midpoint, watching the single unit materialize into several fragments. Once the party-favors died down, us laughing all the way, we would go to a local store for some Pepsi and, Kevin’s favorite, Salt ‘n Vinegar chips then make our way back to my house for ear-blasting entertainment via my computer’s sound system.

Feeling a need to stay indoors, our interaction and activities with the “nature,” summed in one word, would be minute. Spending our time instead on more mental challenges such as where did that backup copy of Apache’s httpd.conf go to? or Kevin’s favorite conundrum, Dude, want me to see if I can cook instead of your dad tonight? to which the answer always was a definite yes. Being a programmer, I always had tasks or studies to accomplish, along with the latest hardware and software to boot. I’d be on my main computer that I built from scratch only a couple of months prior, while Kevin would be messing around and learning with one of my other numerous computers I had lying around, waiting to be put back in commission.

Once night fell, our time had not ended; Kevin enjoyed this time the most, game time. Lights dead, volume blazing, hordes of enemies slashed through walls and obstacles, jetting across the virtual room causing us to jump at the sheer sound of their existence. Taking turns on every death, the both of us would choose a game and combat until our demise. Kevin originally loved Doom 3, especially around midnight; however, I eventually hooked him on my favorite game, Counter-Strike: Source.

Sense birth Kevin and I lived in Rhode Island; however, due to hard times in my family, my family moved into Kentucky. Though we are miles away, we still enjoy our friendship like any other day; we are just limited in activities. Sometimes Kevin calls up to play a game with me and we would connect our systems together while shooting each other and just talk about what has been happening in our lives. Sometime he would talk about how happy he has become now that he lives with his father or how much has changed in the year and a half it has been since I have been home. I always find myself talking about how much I wish I was back and how we would hang out as soon as we could or sometimes about my web-consulting job opportunity, I wish to teach him. One thing that always got me happy was the fact we always knew what the other was thinking. For instance, I’d start a sentence and he’d finish it; sometimes he do even better, if I asked for a screwdriver for a repair he’d have it in my hands before I could open my mouth.

We have already thought of a plan that rests on me getting into the college I wish for next year; if that goes through, Kevin and I are planning to share an apartment together. However, I would not need to pay rent unlike him; it would be an apartment in one of my family’s condominiums. Being the founder of a web-consulting firm, I have plans to personally train and hire Kevin for his assistance in the field and in return, he will get some nice money to help with his rent and hobbies.

A Mesothelioma Lawyer Can Help You Wih A Lawsuit

A Mesothelioma Lawyer Can Help You Wih A Lawsuit

Every year there are 3,000 new cases of Mesothelioma diagnosed in the United States and most of the people who are diagnosed with Mesothelioma don’t know what it is or what causes it. Unfortunately, most people are diagnosed with Mesothelioma are well after the symptoms have began, which can impact treatment and Mesothelioma lawsuits.

Mesothelioma is cancer of the lining of the lungs, the lining of the abdominal cavity or around the lining of the heart. While this type of cancer is quite rare, the majority of people who have this cancer will die a year or two after being diagnosed.

Most cases of Mesothelioma can be traced directly back to asbestos exposure and to date, no other cause for this cancer has been discovered. Asbestos exposure happened through jobs that were held by people who worked with asbestos as well as some military service. 20 years ago, materials and products were manufactured and constructed using asbestos until it was learned that this exposure caused Mesothelioma cancer and other various health concerns.

In World War II, asbestos use was as it’s highest and in full demand – the US Navy was producing ships in mass quantities for the war effort. Asbestos was also used in the construction of buildings as well as automobiles and many other products. Until only a few years ago, the products and processes that use asbestos were unregulated, however the risks of exposure to asbestos were known years in advance yet companies still used the product and didn’t supply safety precautions or education for their workers regarding the risks of exposure. This leaves the companies open for their fault and liable for compensating their workers who were exposed to asbestos and now have Mesothelioma.

It is unfortunate that it is not only the people who worked directly with asbestos that are at risk for contracting Mesothelioma, but also their families. Asbestos is a fine fiber that is virtually indestructible by the body and is easily inhaled. Because it is so fine, it easily clings to skin, hair, clothing and shoes of workers and then can be dislodged at home, and inhaled by other family members.

If yourself or someone you love has Mesothelioma in the state of Rhode Island it is important to contact a Mesothelioma lawyer to find out if you have a potential lawsuit. The biggest problem with the onset of Mesothelioma relating to asbestos exposure is the length of time between the two – usually Mesothelioma symptoms don’t occur until 20 years after the exposure. This makes it hard to diagnose the cancer, as well as track the exposure to asbestos and label the company or companies responsible for the exposure.

The symptoms of Mesothelioma are very similar to many other medical problems and are often mistaken for other conditions, which can ultimately delay the diagnosis of Mesothelioma cancer. Mesothelioma symptoms include chest pains, fluid in the chest, difficultly breathing and coughing. By the time that people are diagnosed with Mesothelioma it is often too late and most people die within a year or two of their diagnosis. Conventional cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy have not proven to be useful in combating Mesothelioma and seem to have little or no effect.

Mesothelioma is caused by the companies and supervisors of those companies of the workers who worked with asbestos and knew the dangers of asbestos exposure, yet didn’t provide for safety precautions to limit the exposure. Mesothelioma is devastating to the people who have it and to their families – physically, emotionally and financially.

A Mesothelioma attorney can help you with building a case for yourself or your loved one who has Mesothelioma. A mesothelioma lawyer in Rhode Island is the best person to track down the companies who are ultimately responsible for your cancer. A Mesothelioma lawyer can help you with a Mesothelioma lawsuit getting financial compensation for you and your family. A Mesothelioma lawyer can work for you to link your Mesothelioma cancer with asbestos exposure and look through your case.

While financial compensation doesn’t replace a life lost to this devastating disease, it can help with the financial ramifications of the disease as well as pain and suffering. The funds can be used to help with lost wages, medical expenses and funeral costs.

Divorce and Real Estate Law – Living Together During the Divorce – A Nightmare Or a Necessity?

Divorce and Real Estate Law – Living Together During the Divorce – A Nightmare Or a Necessity?

Issues concerning the marital domicile and real estate are often the biggest issues that divorcing couples must resolve. The issues of real estate and divorce are often intertwined with complex issues concerning child custody, child support, marital division of assets, marital debt and other issues related to a divorce. This article only applies to Rhode Island Divorce.

1.) Real Estate and temporary use and possession of the marital domicile during the pendency of the divorce.

While a divorce is proceeding in court, there are several potential scenarios concerning the disposition of the real estate: (Please consult a lawyer / attorney concerning your legal options)

A.) Husband and wife reside together while the divorce is pending with or without children.

In many instances, husband and wife live together while the divorce is pending. In some cases, husband and wife live together out of financial necessity because the parties cannot afford to live separately. Other divorcing couples live together because they believe it is in the best interest of the child /children. Some people live together because both husband and wife refuse to leave the marital domicile.

If husband and wife are living together while the divorce is pending, they often reach an agreement as to who will pay the mortgage, taxes, insurance and other real estate related expenses.

In the event that husband and wife cannot reach an agreement then both parties have the right to file motion for temporary orders, asking the court to intervene and determine who will pay the mortgage taxes, insurance, utilities and other expenses for the marital domicile.

If the parties are not civil towards each other there is constant arguing or there is domestic violence / abuse it may become unworkable for the parties to continue living together. If either party is abusing drugs, alcohol or gambling then cohabitating during the divorce process may be unworkable. Either party has the right to file a motion for temporary orders asking for exclusive use and possession of the marital domicile while the divorce is pending.

If one of the spouse has no income and no ability to earn income then it is possible that the spouse who has income or earning capacity could be ordered to pay 100% of the expenses for marital domicile while the divorce is pending. This is especially the case if the unemployed spouse has minor children living at home.

One of the risks of living together while the divorce is proceeding is the that other party will file a restraining order or a complaint protection from abuse.

B.) Husband or wife vacates the marital domicile and there are no children.

If husband or wife voluntarily leaves the marital hime and the other party is residing on the premises then the parties have two options:

1.) Husband and wife reach an agreement, or

2.) Husband or wife files a motion for the court to determine who pays for the house. The person who vacated the house may be ordered to contribute towards the mortgage taxes, insurance and upkeep etc., if any.

If the parties cannot agree then either party can file a motion for temporary orders seeking contribution towards the mortgage taxes, insurance, and upkeep for the marital domicile. The Rhode Island Family Court will then make an equitable determination of who should pay the mortgage taxes and insurance for the marital domicile. How the Family Court decides this issue, depends on several factors including perhaps most importantly, the income and earning capacity of each of the parties. One Judge in the Rhode Island Family Court consistently rules that the spouse remaining in the marital domicile must pay the 1st 0.00 of the mortgage as rent and the parties split the remaining mortgage taxes and insurance 50/50.

C.) One spouse vacates the marital real estate, while the other spouse resides in the marital real estate with a child or children.

The parent who has temporary physical placement (physical custody) of the child/children will have the right to receive child support as well as the potential to obtain contribution to the mortgage taxes, insurance, and upkeep for marital domicile.

If the parties can agree to the correct child support amount and the contributions towards the mortgage, taxes, insurance for the property then a motion for temporary order may not be necessary.

If the parties cannot agree, the court will determine the correct child support amount using the Rhode Island Child Support Guidelines. The cost of daycare and medical expenses is factored into the Rhode Island (RI) child support guidelines. The court may also order that the spouse who vacated the property contribute to the mortgage, taxes and insurance for the marital domicile.

The courts main purpose is to preserve the marital domicile until the divorce trial can be heard. The amount of the child support and contributions to marital domicile will be highly dependant on the income and earning capacity of the parties as well as a particular circumstances of a case. If the spouse who lives with the children has no job and no ability to earn income and no earning capacity it is possible that the other spouse may be required to pay over and above the child support amount to maintain the status quo so that the other spouse is able to maintain the marital domicile.

The primary goal of a Rhode Island (RI) Family Court Judge is to preserve the marital assets until either a complete settlement is reached or the divorce can be decided after a full trial on the merits.

Komodo Island, the Lost World Was Found

Komodo Island, the Lost World Was Found

Sitting in a torrent of activity where the Pacific pours into the Indian Ocean, Komodo Island is home to a multitude of marine life. Simon Rogerson dips his fins in two worlds.

Amazing things happen when two oceans meet. At Komodo National Park in Indonesia – a relatively small stretch of sea around the famous ‘dragon island’ – cool upwellings from the Pacific are forced into relatively shallow water and then flood into the Indian Ocean. The area which sees this massive movement of water is marked by a few volcanic islands which conspire to create some of the most powerful and unpredictable currents on the planet.

It’s a remarkable place – a hothouse for evolution and home to an incredible array of marine life. Of the 500 or so coral species found in the Indo-Pacific, Komodo has 260. It harbours more than 1,000 species of fish and 70 species of sponge. Acre for acre, it is one of the most diverse coral reef environments in the world.

My journey began on the 42m Kararu, a traditional rigged sailing vessel which serves as an extremely spacious liveaboard. It operates from Bali, 160 miles to the west, but the journey to and from Komodo is punctuated by dive sites which are fascinating in their own right, and serve as a build-up to the world-class diving at Komodo and its neighbouring island, Rinca. My host was the boat’s co-owner, Tony Rhodes, a Brit with an easy manner and a knack for spotting near-microscopic animals.

On an early dive at a site called Mentjang Wall, we were finning along in mid-water when Tony suddenly swooped down to the reef. I followed, squinting at the scrappy patch of coral to which he was pointing. At first nothing, then I could make out a tiny brownish nudibranch (of the Flabellinidae family). He had seen it from 10m away! Suspicious, I wondered if he had sneakily placed it there when I wasn’t looking, possibly inspired by Donald Pleasence’s similar trick in The Great Escape.

As I was to discover, his spotting skills were quite genuine. While there are plenty of sizeable creatures to marvel at in Indonesia, the area does tend to attract divers with a penchant for the diminutive. These are rich seas, and there is a perpetual battle for space on the reefs. After just a few days, your eyes become familiar with the environment, so that semi-camouflaged critters begin to reveal themselves. Professional dive guides become finely attuned to this sort of diving.

Komodo National Park comprises the seas around the islands of Komodo, Rinca and Padar, and some smaller islands. It’s a two-wetsuit trip: on the northern side of the islands, the water is warm, and most people dive comfortably with the thinnest of skins. Cool, nutrient-rich upwellings prevail on the southern side, where 5mm suits, hoods and gloves are the order of the day.

These islands act like a dam, holding back the warmer Pacific waters, which are then forced through various straits, creating a pressure void along the park’s southern side. This allows cold water from the Sumba Sea to rise up, effectively replacing the water removed by the currents at the surface. With the cold water comes a bloom in phytoplankton, forming the basis of Komodo’s super-charged food chain. It is a very, very special place indeed.

The results of these crazy upwellings are best experienced at Horseshoe Bay on Rinca’s southern side. These are the most crowded reefs I have ever seen, but the payoff is low visibility caused by all those nutrients suspended in the water. Horseshoe Bay’s famous site is a pinnacle known as Cannibal Rock (named after a monstrous Komodo dragon seen eating one of its own kind nearby), where dense swathes of black, yellow and red crinoids jostle for space.

It’s a great place to test buoyancy skills, because crinoids stick to neoprene like glue; any contact whatsoever and you’ve got yourself a hitchhiker. Once, after taking head-on photographs of an implacable lizardfish, I looked down to find I had picked up two featherstars complete with clingfish and crinoid shrimps – a whole ecosystem! I guiltily set them back on the reef.

Just outside Horseshoe Bay is a fascinating site known as the Great Yellow Wall of Texas, renowned for its soft corals. Visibility here was reminiscent of British shore-diving standards, and the coral polyps were all retracted, so I hardly saw the reef in all its glory. Still, I could appreciate the sheer intensity of the place. Nestling among the crinoid forest were some fascinating animals, including brightly coloured sea apples, a spectacular member of the sea slug family. Tiny hawkfish nestled between the fronds of soft corals, while gobies darted around their tiny territories.

Night dives were even more atmospheric. The currents sweeping over Cannibal Rock were too much to cope with after dark, so we searched for night creatures in the shallows. At first glance, the sandy expanses were devoid of life, but a closer inspection revealed a wealth of nocturnal drama. Octopus each the size of a child’s fist moved over the sand, extending their tentacles into tiny holes as they hunted for suitably small prey. Every now and then, they would retract their foraging limbs in pain, having received a nip from some hidden sand-dweller.

Inshore sites often serve as nurseries. I saw lots of tiny fish, including juvenile oriental sweetlips (flapping wildly like some out-of-control bumblebee) and a rockmover wrasse complete with protruding unicorn’s horn. Photographers found the night dives to be the most productive of all, and some would sacrifice an afternoon dive to be alert for the evening.

The best night dive took place beyond Horseshoe Bay on a sandy slope near Banta Island. The site has a particularly cheesy name – ‘It’s a Small World’ – which nevertheless hints at the macro wonders which have made it their home. I dropped in and descended 10m to what looked to be a lunar landscape, devoid of life. The gritty sand billowed briefly into the water column as I landed on the sea bed and looked down to see a skeletal face leering back with utter contempt.

It was a stargazer, a voracious lunge-predator whose stealth is rivalled only by its monumental ugliness. It buries itself in sand right up to its eyes, then waits for a suitable morsel to happen along. Ambush predators don’t like being seen, and this one looked up at me with undisguised disgust as I gently fanned the sand away from its fearsome features. Eventually, the indignity of being exposed in this way proved too much; it launched itself off the sand and sped off into the darkness.

I enjoy watching other divers at night. Despite the best intentions of the buddy system, there is something about the combination of shallow, current-free sites and diving by torchlight which internalizes the diving experience. Divers retreat into themselves, their attention focused chiefly on the thin column illuminated by their lights. I hovered behind a professional videographer, Roger Munns of Scubazoo (the film-making outfit based in Southeast Asia) fame, who had found a handsome red frogfish – okay, ‘handsome’ isn’t a word often associated with frogfish, but we’re talking ‘eye of the beholder’ here, okay?

As he trained his video lights on the frogfish, the brightness attracted a small food chain. Driven by some inexplicable urge, tiny worms massed around the lights in writhing density. They in turn attracted the attention of some cardinalfish, which foolishly took the frogfish to be a lump of coral. They were soon disabused of this notion as the predator extended its jaws and sucked a hapless cardinalfish into its maw.

This super-gulp is too fast to see. Later, watching Roger’s footage on an iBook laptop, we studied the lunge frame by frame. You see the frogfish give a dainty little leap, and there is a slight blur around its mouth as it takes the fish, but the movement itself is too fast even for a professional-quality video recording in slow motion mode. Viewed at normal speed, the frogfish twitches slightly and the cardinalfish simply disappears.

In addition to illustrating the efficiency of the frogfish’s feeding mechanism, this episode revealed to me the depth of the cardinalfish’s stupidity. The ‘not exactly quick on the uptake’ survivors kept returning to the lights, and the frogfish enjoyed a further six courses while the cardinalfish doubtless wondered where all their companions had gone. By the time I had sidled in to photograph the frogfish, it was noticeably bulkier and appeared to have a case of the hiccups.

Providing a contrast to Komodo’s macro dives is a great manta site off the island of Langkoi, a busy little channel where the graceful rays can be seen feeding on plankton-loaded water. Langkoi’s mantas are among the biggest I have ever seen, some even approaching the legendary 6m mark.

It was a pleasure to dispense with the hood and gloves when our boat Kararu returned to the balmy sites of the north. Here, I was presented with dizzyingly clear water and some classically beautiful reefs. There were plenty of reef fish, but I saw little in the blue, despite the preternatural clarity of the water. Occasionally, schools of barracuda, jacks or bannerfish would appear, but there were no sharks or tuna. This is the case across much of these islands, where shark-finning has decimated reef shark populations over the past decade. Illegal shark fishing and even dynamite bombing still takes place in Komodo National Park, despite its protected status.

Still, conservation efforts at Komodo – reinforced by the presence of tourism – have succeeded in preserving vast tracts of reef. These reefs have an additional importance which transcends the pleasure they give divers. The coral here is especially resilient to the effects of coral bleaching caused by factors such as global warming and El Niño. This is due to the upwelling effect of cooling water from the depths of the Sumba Sea.

Marine biologists believe that as coral reef systems continue to be lost, it is places such as Komodo that will replenish and re-colonize devastated habitats elsewhere in Indonesia and the wider Indo-Pacific. The same currents which make life so difficult (if entertaining) for divers, carry coral larvae beyond the national park to places where reef space is available. In this sense, Komodo is a mother among coral reefs, and one we should all cherish.

• Simon Rogerson dived with Kararu Dive Voyages. Charters are available for trips of different duration, but the standard Komodo tour takes 11 days. Trips to the remote reefs of Alor and Rajah Empat are also available. For further information, contact UK agents Divequest on 01254 826322 or check out Kararu’s website, http://www.kararu.com.

The world’s easiest wreck dive?
No diver should visit Bali without diving the wreck of the Liberty, a First World War-era cargo ship which lies off the beach at the village of Tulamben on the nortwest coast. The Liberty grounded itself on this beach after being torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942, and stayed there until 1963 when the Agung volcano exploded, pushing her into the water and splitting the hull in two.

Today, the wreckage sits on black volcanic sand at a diver-friendly 27m, providing a home for a prodigious amount of marine life. It pained me not to include the Liberty in DIVE’s recent rundown of the world’s best wrecks, but the truth is that this is a wreck dive for divers who don’t like wrecks.

The structure of the wreck is undeniably impressive, but the resident marine life steals the show. There is a school of jacks which regularly form the classic spiral shoaling formation, and tame reef fish abound (they’ve been fed, and approach divers with feverish enthusiasm).

The wreck is coated in coral, and sought-after macro subjects such as the pygmy seahorse can be reliably found. It has to be one of the world’s best shore dives, but what makes it so ludicrously easy is the presence of a local co-operative which charges a small amount for access to the shore, then carries your BC and cylinder to the entry point.

What makes all this slightly shameful is the fact that the co-operative is made up of local women, most of whom are slightly built and less than five feet tall! They can carry two sets of kit at a time for the ten-minute walk over the pebble beach! On their heads!

I couldn’t bring myself to let them carry my gear, but my guide warned me that it would be seen as unforgivably patronizing not to let them do their job. So, I hobbled over the beach behind my petite kit-bearer praying to the Balinese gods that no one would recognize me.

The Job Outlook Of A Marine Biologist

The Job Outlook Of A Marine Biologist

Even though many people today are already familiar with the term marine biologist, several still do not realize the job title. The term can be used in different jobs and disciplines in marine science that deal with studying aquatic life. Even sociologists and economists dealing with marine resource conditions are included in the field of marine biology. You have to properly identify the job outlook to know which part you want to be included in.

Schools Offering Programs in Marine Biology

Several universities and colleges offer different degrees in marine biology, as well as other related fields. You can find more information about the various academic programs online. If you want to study along the Pacific Coast, there are a number of schools that you might want to look at such as the School of Fisheries at the University of Washington in Seattle, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon State, Humboldt University in California, University in Corvallis and University of California Programs at San Diego.

If you want to study in the Midwest, you can enrol at the University of Wisconsin. If you intend to study on the East Coast, you can choose University of Rhode Island, University of Miami, University of Maryland and University of Georgia. Gulf Coast schools include Auburn University, Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University.

The Courses

If you want to pursue a marine biology career, you have to take preparatory courses in physics, zoology, biology, chemistry, mathematics, biometrics and statistics. English is also vital since you will be writing and publishing scientific papers. Other courses in the aquatic sciences are also vital, such as oceanography, fishery biology and ichthyology. Courses in the social sciences are needed which generally deal with management and public policies.

Undergraduates

You undergraduate course does not have to be marine biology. You can graduate and have a degree in zoology, biology, fisheries or one of the animal sciences. Physical oceanographers may aim for an oceanography degree, having a lot of course work in computer modeling, math and physics. Biological oceanographers focus on both the physical and biological features of the sea and the interactions. You will need a bachelor’s or master’s degree to start any kind of marine biological research job.

Getting the Degree

An ideal sample degree will breakdown into the following: biology (45%) and zoology (28%). Undergraduate work may also be done in the following: fisheries (12%), conservation (3%), oceanography (5%), marine biology (2%), chemistry (2%), animal science (2%), biological oceanography (2%) and math (1%).

Among the individuals who acquired their master’s degree, majority chose either zoology or fisheries. Other popular picks include biology, marine biology, oceanography and biological oceanography. Other categories included are animal sciences, physical oceanography and ecology. Most Ph.D. degrees also chose either zoology or fisheries. Other doctorate degrees focused on marine biology, oceanography, biology, ecology and statistics.

Accreditation will depend largely on the school and governing bodies. You may also independently get accreditation by applying to the regional Higher Commission on Learning or regional association of colleges.

The Top ?15? Worst States To Look For A Job

The Top ?15? Worst States To Look For A Job

“Darn It! I just can’t figure out why I’m not getting any leads, hook ups or emails? Could it be my resume? Can’t be? I perfected my resume so good no one can even come close to this master piece, I even created a Blog bio in hopes to get recognized in my area.” Are you asking those questions to yourself? I believe a major issue for this would be because of the state or region that you’re in.

I wanted to share with you some resources or data that will help you on your job search. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS); If you live in anyone of these states, then you might want to think about either changing careers, or possibly relocate (not that you would want to.) However, you should make sure to compare your state with the rest of the regions. Or if you have a good business sense, then my recommendation would be to look into something that you could do for yourself – like start your own business. Hey, just a thought…  The Labor Market Info (check your state LMI under your web search) is an excellent source to check on your local career stats. “Labor market,” means that potential demand for the claimant’s services in the locality where he or she offers them. A labor market may expand or contract with such factors as the season, weather, economic conditions, and consumer demands. “Substantial field of employment” means the presence of potential job openings with more than a minimal number of employers who would use the services offered by the claimant.”

Therefore with that defined, I would like to share with you the Top “15” Worst States to find employment according to their unemployment rate starting in rank (Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) along with some of my comments:

1 MICHIGAN                         10.6 %  (pretty obvious)

2 RHODE ISLAND                                  10.0 %

3 SOUTH CAROLINA                9.5 %

4 CALIFORNIA                                     9.3 % (The “Jones” have left the state)

5 NEVADA                                         9.1 % (Even “Donald Trump” got problems)

6 OREGON                                         9.0 %

7 DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA             8.8 %

8 NORTH CAROLINA                8.7 %

9 INDIANA                                         8.2 % (I don’t know if I’m going back to..)

10 GEORGIA                                     8.1 %

11 FLORIDA                                     8.1 %

12 MISSISSIPPI                           8.0 %

13 TENNESSEE                         7.9 %

14 OHIO                                             7.8 %

15 KENTUCKY                           7.8 % (Seriously???)

It is a bit scary isn’t it? However all is not lost, as I had stated in one of my previous articles, “The real truth Keep plugging away at your search, make sure that all your resources in obtaining a job is used to your utmost confidence.”

Connecticut Construction Jobs

Connecticut Construction Jobs

Connecticut is surrounded by Massachusetts on one side, Rhode Island on another and New York on the rest of the two sides. Connecticut has a humid temperature with varying degrees of humidity towards the exterior and interior of it. Connecticut construction jobs can thus be a little difficult for the manual laborers working under the sun since it would include enormous amount of sweating.

Several companies spread over Connecticut offer construction jobs every now and then. A search on the internet should give an exact list of the construction jobs currently available. Connecticut construction jobs of Contractors say may be required at Stamford, East Hartford, New Haven, Granby, and Suffield etc.

A potential employee can post his resume to all these locations and get selected in a few. Then he could make a choice according to his convenience. One problem that might occur is that most companies do not pay for the relocation. So this expense may have to be considered by the employee himself.

Connecticut construction employment offers job in various posts spread throughout the state like- Estimator may be looked for in New Haven, vacancies of Field technicians in Manchester, Project manager in Wilton, Central office Technicians in New England, Project administrator at Colchester, Civil Engineer in Middletown, Farmers, laborers, tapers and sheet rockers in Portland, Property and manager of Real Estate in East Hartford, Landscape supervisor and Plumbers in Stratford, Project engineer in Storrs Mansfield etc.

Project managers to be hired need a lot of qualifications. Like a company in Colchester could ask for employees for computer literacy, degree related to organizational skills, previous experience of 10 years with special emphasis on Military construction. Construction employment in Connecticut of a project manager would earn one heavy salary, package of full benefits and 401(k) plan also.

Connecticut construction work in Middletown may seek an Architect for water treatment construction. The qualifications demanded could be of a Master’s Degree in specific areas like- Environmental science, civil engineering, or related specialty in engineering and say 3-5 years of prior experience.

Construction employment in Connecticut will involve landscape crew members. A company located in Madison would ask for adult applicants, who have preference for outdoor jobs, with a valid driver’s license, ability to pick up 75lbs to 100lbs at a time etc. They may not make mowing, landscape installation and maintenance work experience absolutely necessary but would have a preference for them. The company would offer training, salary and benefits to the employee but would not cover relocation or travel expenses.

Several websites display the current vacancies along with the required qualification for the post and the responsibilities that would be expected to be handled by the applicant. There are address and phone numbers given for reference and further information. The email id where the resume must be sent is given too. The resume must be put together in such a way that it should highlight the workers efficiency, experience and expertise in that particular field. Overall, experience for construction work in Connecticut is a must and the longer the experience is of the better it is.
