New Jersey’s 19 community colleges were represented by Steven Rose, President of Passaic County Community College. He declared that the 19 community colleges have approximately billion in unmet needs. He asserted that New Jersey leads the nation with 30% of its students leaving the state for out-of state institutions. He stressed that the 19 community colleges serve over 400000 students, but no new capital funding is expected this year from the state. In other presentations: • President Robert Altenkirch of New Jersey Institute of Technology, discussed two major construction projects that are being initiated—a campus master plan and a campus gateway plan …

1-Stop Career Centers, State of New Jersey

State Agencies are NOT USER FRIENDLY. They create more problems than they solve. The only ones secure are the job agency employees (aka: State Workers). Their computer sites need upgrading, contacts more user friendly, and SOMEBODY PICK UP THE PHONE! Even Craigs List is better organized than the State!

While the state lost over 4100 jobs in June, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported a tenth of a percent drop, to 5.3%, in its unemployment rate. New Jersey did manage to add 100 public sector positions, while it saw a total of 4100 jobs in manufacturing, transportation, and retail displaced. With a slow building market and retail activity, combined with the closure of Jevic Transportation and its 1000 employees, New Jersey saws its 4 years and counting project of employment expansion, come to an end. Even though it is an increase, at a very small percent, the state is left searching for ways to increase jobs in the private sector. Although 5.3 is below the national unemployment rate of 5.5%, New Jersey can’t just rely on the numbers. www.EmploymentCrossing.com
