How business and social networking sites is changing the way we find jobs?

How business and social networking sites is changing the way we find jobs?

‘70% of successful job searches depend on personal contacts’-CareerDevelopment Center of Hollins University. The above fact emphasizes the need for having and creating personal contacts and networking. In an age, where job seekers outnumber the available jobs, it has become imperative to be at the right place at the right time. But how will you know where to be at and at what time? Someone has got to inform you. And this is where ‘networking’ assumes importance.

Networking is not a new age phenomenon. The Western world came to know about Indian spices through networking. Trade between the Indus valley civilization and Mesopotamia can be attributed to networking.

The rise of the Internet saw the traditional avatar of networking donning new clothes. While traditional networking allowed making contacts via our acquaintances, online networking allows us to contact people with whom we share something in common. For e.g., online networking allows you to contact someone who shares the same hobby as you or is engaged in the same profession. You can directly approach the person on your own.

Business and social networking sites are changing the way of searching and finding the latest vacancies that exist. More and more people are logging into the virtual world and making appropriate connections to land that dream job. According to COM Score Media Matrix social networking site MySpace.com registered record 50 million visitors in May. It also grew by 318% between February 2005 to February 2006.

Thus, business and social networking sites are witnessing a phenomenal growth rate. But how are business and social networking sites changing the way we find jobs? Social networking makes sure that you are among the first who gets the whiff of the latest job posted. Networking allows the easy and free flow of information. It also makes sure that the information is forwarded at a lightning speed. For e.g. you are a resident of Kentucky looking out for a job as a paralegal. You comb the local newspapers, swamp innumerable law firms with your resumes and make sure that your profile is visible on all job sites that you can possibly think of. And the result- you are still looking for a job. And then a miracle takes place. You are registered with one of the social networking sites. Among your many contacts is an acquaintance with whom you have befriended just because you both are diehard fans of the LA Lakers. He knows about your quest for a job. One day he mails you that his sister’s brother-in-law has a vacancy- they are a legal firm who are in need of a paralegal. Two days later, you are going out for what will be the first day of work. This is the power of online networking.

Business networking sites allow you to get in touch with high-end executives and business professionals. It is often noticed that many times jobs are not advertised. They are filled in through recommendation and referrals. Business networking sites allow you to get in touch with people who are directly involved in the decision making process. Many business-networking sites allow one to paste profile and get connected to people who share the same skill or who are employed in the same profession. These connections can be successfully harnessed to get a job.

Networking also helps one stay in tune with the demands of the industry. For e.g. you are software engineers, currently working on .net platform. You are a member of a social and business-networking site. A high school friend of yours, [with whom you got reconnected through a social networking site] who is also a recruitment consultant informs you that nowadays the focus has started shifting to Java. An IT expert in your business-networking site confirms this fact. Now, you can start upgrading your skill set, so that you can get a bigger pay packet.

Many networking sites also offer offline events. Attending such events is a good way to create new relationships with people who can help you in further career advancements. Networking sites also give an opportunity to contact people who can answer career related queries.

Some networking sites also give opportunity for people to write endorsements about those with whom they have worked. This recommendation can be used for getting better job opportunities. Also there are many business-networking sites that focus on a particular field, industry or profession. Making connections with people who are from the same industry or profession allows one to remain aware of the latest job vacancies; trends and changes taking place in the job market that will help to steal march over others. This is because online networking lets one foster relationship with innumerable people and who can say, when one of them will help us strike gold?

Many business-networking sites also post jobs on their sites. So, you get one more online option to look out for jobs, i.e. in addition to the job portals. Online networking also helps you to build relationships before you can actually ask for a job. And that too without facing the recruiter. It is always better to break the ice in the virtual world before meeting in the real world. This is particularly beneficial to people who are somewhat apprehensive about talking to strangers.

Many of the recruiters also use networking sites for finding out potential employees. In an interview, there is always a chance of the candidate lying about his capabilities, though, the availability of sophisticated software and the various developments taking place in the HR field makes it very easy for the recruiter to spot the lies. In an online networking site, the relationship is established and trust is built over a period. Hence, the recruiter is able to decide the true capabilities of a person. This is also perhaps the reason why more and more recruiters are choosing the ‘networking’ way instead of posting jobs online.

Business and networking sites are thus revolutionizing the way people are getting jobs. More and more people are becoming aware of the power and benefits of online networking. Online methods should be judiciously combined with traditional methods to make sure that you do bag that coveted job.

Much Improvement Needed for Manufacturers to be Competitive by 2015

Lexington, Ky. (PRWEB) June 10, 2009

A report released today by a public-private manufacturing coalition reveals a significant gap between what Kentucky manufacturers are doing today and what they need to do to position themselves to be successful in 2015.

The study uses six Next Generation Manufacturing (NGM) strategies as key indicators of future manufacturing competitiveness. Performance that is world class today will likely be standard practice in 2015 study sponsor Kentucky Manufacturing Assistance Center’s Lynn Witten said.

With fewer than 50 percent of Kentucky manufacturers indicating they are making good progress toward achieving world class performance on any one NGM strategy, Witten said the study should serve as a call-to-action for policymakers, legislators and manufacturers.

“How quickly our state’s private and public sectors begin to apply this information will determine future success,” she said. “With support from the state, we can help close the awareness and performance gaps revealed through this study.”

Witten said the state’s manufacturing glass can be seen as half full or nearly empty, depending on which strategies are considered.

“Customer-Focused Innovation is tied with Systemic Continuous Improvement for the top spot with 64 percent of manufacturers rating these strategies as highly important to their success over the next five years,” Witten said. “Forty-five percent of Kentucky manufacturers report making good progress toward achieving world class performance in Customer-Focused Innovation, however, only 14 percent of firms meet the world-class threshold of investing more than 10 percent of sales revenue into new product development.”

On the other end of the spectrum, only 17 percent rated Sustainable Product and Process Development as highly important and fewer than 13 percent met the world class standard of having 100 percent of their products being completely recyclable/reusable.

Of particular concern to Witten is the lower performance found among smaller firms.

“Progress toward world class performance is 20 – 30 percent lower among smaller firms,” Witten said. “This performance gap is especially troubling because 76 percent of the state’s manufacturers are small – with fewer than 50 employees.”

Witten believes the study offers a wealth of information and can serve as a road map to future economic development success, which is crucial for a state that depends on manufacturing for more than 255,000 well-paying jobs and billion in Gross State Product.

“This study has shown us the current state of manufacturing in Kentucky,” she said. “Now, we need to adopt a continuous improvement mindset and use this study as a tool for improving the future state of manufacturing in Kentucky.”

One of KMAC’s first steps will be convening a group of manufacturing leaders, policy makers, economic development organizations and service providers to work on a comprehensive strategy for Next Generation Manufacturing in Kentucky.

“We also will organize discussions among groups providing manufacturing assistance in Kentucky to improve coordination and development of market-driven services and use the data to create new service offerings and outreach strategies,” Witten said. “This is just the beginning of the process.”

KMAC provides training and implementation of manufacturing best practices for small and mid-size manufacturers. It is the Kentucky affiliate of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST/MEP) program.

The Kentucky study was part of a national research project conducted by the Manufacturing Performance Institute, a Cleveland-based global research company led by John Brandt, former editor-in-chief of Industry Week Magazine, and organized by the American Small Manufacturers Coalition. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, E.ON U.S. and the Tennessee Valley Authority worked with KMAC to encourage Kentucky manufacturers to participate in the NGM survey process. Sixty-six manufacturers participated.

How To Find Your Dream Home From Cincinnati Real Estate And Northern Kentucky Real Estate Remax Agent

How To Find Your Dream Home From Cincinnati Real Estate And Northern Kentucky Real Estate Remax Agent

Almost everybody has a dream home. A place they like to wander through in their thoughts, choosing imaginary wallpaper and putting in imaginary skylights. But for too many people, dream Cincinnati homes remain just that–dreams. The reality of owning their own home never seems to become theirs.

Once you have figured out what kind of home are looking for, the next thing to do is to search for the best possible deal. Although this is the toughest part of the whole home buying process, doing your homework certainly does help. There are two ways of doing this. Searching on your own or by hiring a Cincinnati real estate agent and letting them do the hard work for you! Leverage their experience!

In case you are looking to do it yourself, here are a few tips that would certainly help.

Know Your Rights as a Homebuyer

Before you start, there are many laws that protect you from scams, unnecessary expenses, and discrimination in the process of homebuying. Know your rights!

Find out How Much Mortgage Can You Afford

You can save yourself a lot of wheel-spinning if you take a minute to figure out how much mortgage you can afford. Generally, a lender will want your monthly mortgage payment to total no more than 29% of your monthly gross income (that’s your monthly income before taxes and other paycheck deductions are taken out.) You also need to consider current loan interest rates. The lower the interest rate, the more expensive the home you’ll be able to afford. Follow our tips and use these simple calculators to see how much you can afford in a mortgage payment.

Create Your “Wishlist”

Make your Wish Lst. Focus on the features you want in a home: 2 bedrooms or 3? 1 bath or 2? Garage or no garage? Knowing what you’re looking for will help you focus your search. And it will help your Cincinnati real estate broker, too.

Research, Research and Research!

The easiest way to do this is the Internet! The best way to find what you should expect for your hard earned money is to surf all the Cincinnati real estate sites and see what is available in your price range! Make a Short list of all the houses that meet most of your (written down) requirements.

Searching Tip

Searching for Cincinnati real estate over the net is so much easier than browsing a newspaper because you can key in your personal search criteria and dont have to be bothered with the vast number of listings that arent for you. Internet Cincinnati real estate sites offer customized search options that allow you to zero in on your key requirements.

Local newspapers would be a better bet in case you are looking to buy a house in the same locality. Sunday newspapers generally have a number of good listings.

Make appointments to look at all the short listed houses

Make sure that you visit each and every house short listed. Call the landlord well in advance and set up an appointment. Don’t shy away from taking as many inspections as you want.

You can find out by asking yourself some questions:

Do I have a steady source of income (usually a job)? Have I been employed on a regular basis for the last 2-3 years? Is my current income reliable?

Do I have a good record of paying my bills?

Do I have few outstanding long-term debts, like car payments?

Do I have money saved for a down payment?

Do I have the ability to pay a mortgage every month, plus additional costs?

If you can answer “yes” to these questions, you are probably ready to buy your own home.

Louisville Painter Tips, Louisville KY Painter Tips, Kentucky Painter Tips

Louisville Painter Tips, Louisville KY Painter Tips, Kentucky Painter Tips

The best place to find a reasonable Louisville KY painter in the Louisville KY area.
So you are wanting to hire an expert to paint your home. Whether you are doing the inside or outside, there are multiple things to evaluate when making this important decision.

What to do to locate a great Painter in Louisville:
1. Research and make sure that they have a valid contractors license.
2. Get at least two businessreferences.
3. Determine how long they have been painting.
4. Ask for at least one other quote for the job to make sure they are not completely ripping you off.
5. For small work, look for a contractor who will provide you pricing via the telephone.
6. request flat rate quotes so you know the total you will pay from the beginning.
The best place to look for professional Louisville painters is your family and friends. Other great sources of professional Louisville painters include electrical workers, real estate agents and your local paint supply store. They most likely would be able to provide a list of highly recommended Louisville house painters who are aware of with the requirements in your area. When seeking for referrals, male sure to review the type of project the Louisville KY painter was called in to complete. Also, find out if the Louisville KY painter specializes in residential or commercial work.

Good questions to ask referrals:
Were they courteous and polite?
This is an extremely important quality. The entire experience, from start to finish, must be as enjoyable as possible. Also, if the Louisville KY painter has fun at their job, the craftsmanship and attention to details will be much better. The customer’s attitude can and will have an effect on the entire job. If you are savvy this will be the first question you ask. If the {response|answer| to this question is “no” then I would not continue any farther, you should not want to deal with that person.

Are you happy with the quality of work performed by the painting contractor?
Most people have their own interpretations of craftsmanship, so you must take a look at their job and see what you think. Make sure to check around the cut in and trim areas. Are the edges straight and was a sealant put on. Interior or outside doesn’t matter; proper surface preparation typically gives improved, more pleasing outcomes.

Did the painting contractor cover non painted surfaces?
For exteriors this counts patios, the roof and plants. For inside moving and protecting furniture is a big worry but don’t forget about the floor. If a house painter was sloppy with one client there is a good chance that they will be dirty with all of them. If you are left to straighten up after your contractor, this will cost you more time and money, and frustration.
Is a warranty included?
If a promise was included, determine if it has a decent length of time before expiring, 3 years is sufficient, and if it is worth anything. Just speaking a guarantee isn’t good enough. You should always request it on paper and determine its requirements! A professional contractor is happy to back up his warranty. Great Louisville KY painters use great materials and know their level of expertise. If a Louisville KY house painter does not give a warranty this is a red flag in my mind.

Louisville Painters

I have been painting for over 20 years.

I know pretty much everythign you can about exterior painting.

Kentucky Accident Victims Are Not Required to Give Insurance Companies Statements

Kentucky Accident Victims Are Not Required to Give Insurance Companies Statements

If you have been in an accident in Kentucky there are several items that will need your attention. As an accident victim you will need to see to your medical needs immediately. You will more than likely also need to deal with car repairs. Combine that with the anxiety you are experiencing because of the accident itself. One of the common myths about personal injury cases and how they proceed is whether you have to give a statement to the insurance company. Many people believe they have to and they have to exactly when the insurance says to, Not so.

There is no requirement in Kentucky that deems you have give the insurance company a statement after you have been in an accident. Your insurance company will need to know what happened, but this can wait. Do not give them a statement until at least a few days have passed after the accident or maybe even weeks or months. You need to let time pass to see if you are injured or how serious your injuries really are. This will give you a chance to collect your thoughts and harness your feelings. Many times you will feel fine right after the accident. You may not feel any pain until the next morning or even several days later. Should you give a statement immediately following the accident and state that you were not injured; this statement can damage and decrease the value of your case. Do not put yourself in this position.

The at-fault party’s insurance company will call you and ask to take your statement or even call and just start asking you questions. They will be recording this statement. Do not give them a statement until you have an opportunity to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney. An attorney will take a look at your case and advise you as to whether it is in your best interest to give a statement. In some circumstance it is okay to give the statement. The insurance adjuster must have the information from your statement in order to process your claim and make an offer on your case. In other situations you should not give a statement at all or you should wait.

Even though it might be a good idea to give a statement you need to be prepared to give the statement. The adjuster takes statements on a daily basis. He does it professionally. It is part of his job. Some adjusters try to trap you or trick you with their questions in hopes of decreasing the value of your accident case. Make sure you are prepared before you give a statement. Take the time to sit down with an attorney and feel comfortable with the process of giving a statement. Put yourself on a level playing field. Anything you say can be used against you at a later time if a lawsuit is filed. If you say something different in a deposition or at trial the insurance company attorney will bring up the inconsistent statement you gave the adjuster. Don’t fall for this trap.

Michael A. Schafer is an attorney who concentrates his law practice in personal injury litigation in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the author of “7 Potholes That Can Wreck Your Kentucky Accident Case” and “What You Don’t Know About Buying Car Insurance Can Hurt You”.
